Saddleback Mountain is 20 minutes down the road, the lodge was built in 1909 as a family camp compound for the Ludeke Family in the day when families would take the train up from Boston or New York and spend the summer in the cool mountains on the lake with cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Over time, it has been sold many times going back and forth from being a family compound to an Inn for over one hundred years. It’s current owners have restored it back to its original glory.
The rates are very reasonable and their is a pub and dining room specializing in new American cuisine. With 8 rooms available, this could be the perfect place for your family to get together this year for some alpine skiing or snowmobiling. This is definitely a throw back to the old New England skiing lodge days where you and yours could create traditional memories for yourselves.

Would you have expected anything less than fabulous from the original von Trapp Family, the family on which the musical, The Sound of Music is based on?
After escaping the Nazi regime in Austria in the late 1930’s, the von Trapps immigrated to the United States eventually settling in the mountains of Vermont and by the early ’50’s had founded a 27 room Alpine Lodge which boasts their own 100km Cross Country ski trails for every level of skier or snowshoer. The accommodations vary from the luxurious lodge to private cabins. Week long rentals can be had or you can even buy a fractional or whole ownership of one of their new vacation home options. There isn’t much this industrious family hasn’t thought of. They offer Yoga & fitness classes, art & crafts for the kids, wine tastings, swimming and a Music Camp. There is always something going on for everyone, every age, every season. P.S. They also have pet friendly lodging AND their own brewery!

The opportunity and prices are unbeatable here starting at $65. a day per person which includes lodging, dinner and breakfast. The accommodations are true cabin lodge style with bunk rooms, a communal great room and family style dining. This is barebones, folks. You bring your own bedding and towels, but they supply warm huts and comfy bunks and pillows. Books and games are available for night time entertainment in each hut. What a way to experience a cross country ski trip!
