Four Great Ways to Decorate with Chicken Wire
That’s right, we said “chicken wire." Did you realize this versatile wire netting–commonly used to fence in chicken coops, hence the name–could be used in all kinds of DIY and home decor projects? We’re big fans of reusing and repurposing the things we already have lying around in the shed or garage, so go grab yourself some chicken wire and a pair of pliers, and let’s get to crafting!
Four Great Ways to Use Chicken Wire
…Instead of Solid Cabinet Doors: Stop shamefully stuffing your kitchen cabinets and get them organized! Display their contents in an artful way by attaching wire netting to the inside of a simple painted cabinet door frame. Such a small detail can really make a difference in the overall feeling of the room.
…for Decorative Storage Baskets: Who doesn’t love more storage? Using a similar method to making lampshades, make or buy a simple frame for a wire basket or wooden crate. Then, fashion the sides out of chicken wire by fastening it with some pliers. Once you’re done, you can use these pretty new storage receptacles for added storage in any room!
…as a DIY Rustic Lampshade: Looping chicken wire around a set of two or three hoops (depending on the light or lamp you’re looking to cover) is one of the simplest DIY projects ever! Pair with a decorative filament bulb like this one, and you’ve got some seriously chic lighting.
…to make cute Hanging Globes: This same technique of wrapping your wire around a hoop (you choose the size!) to fashion a small globe is the perfect solution to store small fruits, vegetables, aromatics, and kitchen accessories. Hang the globes from your overhead cabinets or the ceiling to free up some precious countertop real estate!
