Iconic New York City Places
You’re traveling to New York City. You’ve never been before and you are super excited. Of course you wish your family and friends were with you and the next best thing is to bring them back a little memory from your trip, if only to let them know you were thinking of them.
Here are a few of our favorite picks that won’t rob your travel budget!
The Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island
Two of the most iconic places to visit while in New York City are the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Both islands, who have welcome visitors from all over the world for over a century, were totally restored in the last 30 years. At Ellis Island, you can trace your name and heritage back to your ancestors who came here by ship starting in 1900.
If you can’t make it there to see it all in person, you can do a passenger search here.
The Strand
Zabars
Eighty years ago, Louis and Lillian Zabar opened up their grocery store on the corner of Broadway and West 80th Street and it is still there. They roasted their own coffee, and were known for only having the best quality of every kind of food. To this day they maintained high standards and are well known for being the ones to introduce such foods to New York as brie, caviar, artisan products and even sun dried tomatoes. Bring back a pound of coffee or send home some bagels.
The Museum of Natural History
Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean, Space Show: Dark Universe, the Hayden Planetarium and even Theodore Roosevelt. Located at Central Park West at 79th Street, there is something for everyone with a promise that you will not be bored! Be prepared to spend some time here and their gift shop is totally amazing as well!
